A Wild Ride: Impulse-Buying A Classic Mustang

Well, I haven’t so much had time to talk on my blog nearly as often as I’d planned, because of all the time I’ve been dealing with my pops manage his super nutball midlife crisis. Well, some would argue it isn’t quite as nuts as it might be. You see, what he did was to get himself dressed up like he was Fonzie or something, and come on over to my place and proclaim to me, in his “coolest” tone of voice: “Hop in, son, you and I are gonna start shopping for some classic Ford Mustangs. You heard that right, buddy, it’s about time I make this thing happen.”

Next thing I know my Dad and I went out to some of those crazy vintage car lots that most people are mostly certain are part of some organized crime ring, and I can’t believe it when the crazy old guy wrote a check right there on the spot, for an alarmingly gleaming classic Ford Mustang. It’s an impressive machine. It sounded great as well.

Notice that I phrased about that sound in the past tense. It sounded amazing until it stopped making any noises. Dad maintains that it’s a easy problem and he just needs the right part. The problem is, it may not be as painless to get your hands on 1966 Mustang parts as it was some a million years ago, but my Dad swears there is a pretty good-sized market for them to this day. It seems like the the best bet for finding parts for classic Mustangs is through online auctions, since you can find them refurbished and occasionally as good as new. They might not be super-cheap, however… I mean, they are ancient car parts.

I guess it could’ve been worse… He could’ve decided to buy a harley.
